Jazz blooms this March at the Palladium starting with St. Pete Jazz Festival this weekend

Palladium audiences love their jazz and we’re delivering the goods all this month and beyond.

The Side Door and Hough Hall are the scenes of shows tonight through Sunday as the St. Petersburg Jazz Festival continues a five-show run. Tonight, it’s steel pan virtuoso Leon Foster Thomas and pianist Tal Cohen in the Side Door. Saturday it’s jazz singer Alexis Cole fronting the Helios Jazz Orchestra in Hough Hall. And the festival wraps up Sunday with a  home-grown talent who is on his way to big things – Jason Charos leads a tribute to tumpeter Booker Little in the Side Door.

Returning to the Side Door on Saturday, March 7 is New York’s Queen of Swing and her band. That’s right, Svetlana and the Delancey Five are back in the Side Door with jazz for listening and dancing. Local favorite Dean Johanesen opens with his gypsy jazz influenced trio. We’re putting a wooden dance floor in the Side Door for this show! Click here for tickets and more information.

On Sunday March 8 we’re partnering with our friends at the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association for our 15th-annual Women of Jazz concert. The show features Valerie Gillespie and an all-female band, plus a special appearance by singer Rose Bilal. Rose, a friend one of the best singers around, has been out of commission recovering from illness, but she’s making her comeback at this show. For tickets and more info just follow this link.

Palladium favorite Nate Najar is back on March 20 with a Jazz Samba Celebration featuring Orlando’s Jeff Rupert on sax and D.C.’s Chuck Redd on vibes, along with Brazilian singer Daniela Soledade. Follow this link for tickets and info.

We wrap up a big jazz month on March 31, with a special graduation concert by Cathy Lopez, a burgeoning young sax player completeling her masters at USF. The show features a bandstand full of stars including James Suggs, LaRue Nickelson, Mark Feinman, Alejandro Arenas, John O’Leary and special guest Brandon Miller. Follow this link for tickets to that show.
