It’s Spring and that means the “megasuperband,” The Florida Bjorkestra, is back at the Palladium

Spring is here and it’s time for another magical visit from The Florida Bjorkestra. Mark your calendar for this Sunday, March 31, at 6 p.m. when the 20-piece ensemble presents the music of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.

I’m not exaggerating when I tell you the Bjorkestra brings together the finest musicians in our community and turns our hall into a singing and dancing celebration. Just ask anybody who was here last spring when the Bjorkestra took on Madonna and George Michael.

I’m so excited about this year’s model I came back to the Palladium Monday night, after being here all day, just to catch some of the Bjorkestra rehearsal. Believe me, this one is going to be amazing.

To get you prepped, I wanted to share a piece written, I’m sure, by Bjorkestra Maestro Jeremy Douglass about the band and the show:

St. Pete’s own megasuperband The Florida Björkestra is throwing a Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush party on Sunday, March 31.

We’ve curated the perfect set list of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush songs and we’ll perform them for you live with real strings, real horns, gobs of vocals and a monstrous rock band core fronted by Whitney James and Ronnie Dee and led by Head SuperGeek Jeremy Douglass.

How do you choose a Peter Gabriel set? Can we tell you it’s not easy? We agonized over this question back in 2016 and, not content to play the same show twice, we agonized again this year.

So we’re going to try something novel. We chose one song from every Peter Gabriel album all the way back to Genesis’ “Selling England By The Pound.” We’ll play them in chronological order, too, because why wouldn’t you?

We struggled over this Kate Bush set, too. There’s just so many great songs. But Jamie Perlow (our resident Björk and George Michael) has seen the set list and she says we nailed it. We believe her cause she’s never wrong.

We’ve got duets galore featuring TFB mainstays Jamie Perlow, Colleen Cherry and Kasondra Rose. We’ve got strings, horns, and a rock band core shaking the tree in the best theater in St. Petersburg, our home stage and biggest supporter The Palladium at St. Petersburg College.

Aside from Buffyfest, this is the first time we’ve pulled shows out of the vault, so if you missed our sold-out Kate Bush set in July 2016, or our (also sold-out) Peter Gabriel set in Dec 2016, grab your things we’ve come to take you home.

Bring your boom boxes with you, hold them high over your head. Dress up in your finest Wuthering Heights attire. Wear the red shoes. Bring a stuffed monkey and some jumper cables. WE SEE YOU out there and we love it.

Watch us for updates. We‘ll probably be asking for some video from you all soon. We had so much fun putting together all the submissions for our Madonna Vogue video. We want to do it again! When we figure out what it’ll look like we’ll start bugging you to send in clips for us to edit together and play on the big screen during the show.
