“Girls Night Out” brings three of Florida’s funniest women to the Side Door stage this Friday

Michael Murillo is one of the funniest guys I know. And he proves it on stage regularly, opening for Amy Schumer and Tig Notaro, and delivering a very funny set in a Side Door stand-up night at the Palladium last year.  Michael produces “Girls Night Out,” a night of comedy by women and for women (though guys are allowed…).

Michael and I have been trying to find a date to bring a “Girls Night Out” to the Side Door and it’s finally happening this Friday night, Aug. 24, at 8 p.m.

The show will feature three of Florida’s funniest women and I’m happy to report, tickets are selling well for this comedy debut. To get yours, call our box office at 727-822-3590 or follow this link for online tickets and information.

Tell me about the idea behind “Girls Night Out.” Why a night of all-female standup?

You could go to a comedy club every weekend for a month and you might not see a single female comedian. That’s a shame, because the ladies are just as funny as the guys. If you like a variety of stand-up comedy, you’re missing out. This show is a chance to see three very funny women all on the same bill.

Can you tell me a little bit about our three stars?

All three ladies live in Florida and have impressive comedy resumes. Trish Keating and Catherine Maloney are actually headliners in their own right, and will be our emcee and feature performers. They’re in regular demand at comedy clubs, independent shows and private events.

Our headliner, Rene Bray, has been performing for decades and has been working clubs since before some popular comedians were born. Now she has a full calendar of mostly corporate events, so we were lucky to get her for our Aug. 24 show.

Will a guy get thrown out if he shows up?

As long as a wife or girlfriend can vouch for him, he should be fine.

Seriously, it’s a misnomer that these shows are just male-bashing or that guys won’t enjoy it. Men definitely come to the shows, because the comedy is relatable to anyone who’s an adult, a parent or a partner. It’s a fun time.
