Since the swing era, saxophonist Stan Getz had been known simply as “The Sound.”
Saxophonist Jeff Rupert, along with vocalist Veronica Swift, drummer Marty Morell (Bill Evans Trio) Richard Drexler (piano) and Ben Kramer (bass) revisit classics made famous by Stan Getz including Desafinado, Girl from Ipanema, Early Autumn, Moonlight in Vermont, Pennies from Heaven, Here’s that Rainy Day, and other Getz recordings that became popular favorites. Few jazz musicians ever achieved as wide an appeal as Getz who created art that attracted worldwide appeal. During the Sixties, Getz’s albums often beat out the Beatles on the charts. Said John Coltrane, “We all wish we could sound like Stan Getz.”
